The Shocking Truth About Halloween Celebration!

What is Halloween without Halloween costumes? No matter the age or status, a person tries his best to search for the finest Halloween costume possible! And when I say “best”, I mean the “scariest”. After all, Halloween is all about scaring people, right? You would want to make sure that you wear the most frightening robe and have fun the whole night by frightening your party guests!

Witchly Group (set of 3)There was a time when mothers used to select costumes for their children. Things have however changed now. As children have become more and more enlightened about Halloween (and more progressive in their thought process) they prefer to take decisions on their own. In all cases, discussions about buying Halloween costumes start months before the actual start of Halloween! Indeed, it is a big celebration time for Christians, and in terms of importance, perhaps it is next to Christmas, which comes just a couple of months later!

The funny thing is that unlike Christmas, Halloween is not actually a “Christian” festival in true sense of the term. Surely the Christians have embraced it over the course of time, but in reality its first celebration dates back to way before the advent of Christ and Christianity! I bet that surprised you a bit, but it is a FACT nonetheless!

The Celts used to believe in pagan gods, and as such, they were also a believer in “spirits”, both good and bad. They used to believe that on the night of Halloween, spirits of the dead come out of their graves to torment the living human beings on earth, probably out of jealousy or just for fun!

To keep the spirits away, the Celts would paint themselves with soot, in a way that they look ghoulish and frightening. They believed that this would help keep the bad spirits away from them. Over the course of time masks were invented as a replacement to the face-paint, and today we have so many dazzling costumes! Wow, times have changed for sure!

Today, most people prefer to go for the most ghoulish-looking costumes. Some others believe that these attires are not a true representation of Christianity; such people prefer to wear costumes representing different biblical characters instead!
